MIs Inning
Winning the toss MI elected to bat but the legend duo of Ponting and Tendulkar departed within first 9 balls of the match and the score read 1/2. But Karthik, the sole warrior of Mumbai Indians in the last two matches announced he is not yet done. He deserved a century, yet his counterattack saw him reaching 86 runs in only 48 balls, after completing the half-century in only 29 balls, a record for the current season.

Rohit Sharma who took 8 balls to open his account played the supporting role. His first boundary came as a six in Morkel’s over. While Karthik raced to 86 runs in 48 balls with 4 boundaries and 2 sixes, Rohit was still on 29 runs of 31 balls at the end of 14th over. The score read 124/2. Morkel’s introduction in 15th over saw Rohit hitting three boundaries but Karthik was caugh by Mendis that ended a 132-run partnership. Karthik’s effort has taken MI out of danger after losing openers for just 1 run.

Pollard joined Rohit, But Nehra got him in 18th over on 13 runs (1 six and 1 four). Rohit completed his half-century in 42 balls, and Rayudu walked in. The last two overs saw these two scoring 42 runs. Irfan in 19th over gave 22 runs with Rayudu hitting 21 of them. First ball of last over saw Nehra catching Rayudu (24 runs, 8 balls, 2 boundaries, 2 sixes) on his own ball. Sharma then hit 3 sixes to remain unbeaten on 5-ball 74 runs (4 boundaries, 5 sixes). Harbhajan remained unbeaten on 1 run.

DDs Chase of 210 runs
Only CSK has chased 200+ runs successfully in IPL. DDs batting had only Warner and Mahela to hope a miracle. Unmukt Chand failed again with second first-ball duck in 3rd inning of this edition as Ponting did a Jonty (Rhodes) on the first ball of the innings bowled by Harbhajan Singh. Captain Mahela could have been gone on third ball, but Malinga failed to hold what appeared to be an easy catch. But he could only survive till 3rd over as Johnson had him caught behind on 3 runs.

Juneja and Warner took the fight back to MI. For DD also third wicket brought them back in the game. But thereafter unlike MI they had no support. Warner (61 runs, 37 balls, 5 fours, 4 sixes) and Juneja (49 runs, 40 balls, 6 fours) scored faster than MI. Their effort saw DD ahead after 10 overs and as score read 95 Warner went to Johnson but has done enough to see DD reaching 100 runs ahead of MI. But after that the collapse started from the other end. Mendis (0) in 12th over by Pollard, Irfan Pathan (10 runs in 12 balls) in 15th ov by Ojha, Jadhav (1 run) in 16th over by Malinga, Nadeem (2 runs) in 17th ov by Ojha, and then Juneja unfortunately run out in 18th over. Nehra went in last over bowled by Pollard.

Morne Morkel showed some firework but that was too late. He hit Johnson for three consecutive boundaries in 19th over and then hit Pollard for a six on the last ball of the match but his 9 balls 23 runs may give Delhi hope for tailender’s support in next match. Yadav was unbeaten on 5 runs.
