Golden Girl Tejaswini Loses Battle for Olympic Berth

Munich, Germany: Tejaswini Sawant who struck Gold in 50m Rifle Prone Women, failed to grab Olympic berth for 2012 London Olympics, as the event was not marked for Olympic berth. She still had a chance to grab the elusive Olympic Berth in 50m Rifle 3 Positions Women. But, she did not even make the finals of that event.

Profile of Tejaswini

Tejaswini, the latest Golden Girl of India, was knocked out in the qualifying round of the 50m Rifle 3 Positions women. She finished a low 60th among 71 participants. In fact, her low finish in this event was a surprise for all, not only because she just won a gold in another event but also because during her first attempt she has already won a bronze in the event in 2009 World Cup Shooting at Munich.

Her score of 568 was far away from the high expectations raised after her Gold in earlier event of 50m Rifle Prone in the Munich Shooting World Championships. Her best performance again was in Prone. Yet, wearing Bib No. 2192, in Standing and Kneeling she failed miserably.

Total Score: 568 – 24x

    Prone – 197 (100, 97)
    Standing – 185 (93, 92)
    Kneeling – 186 (93, 93)

German Barbara Lechner (589 – 35x) + 98.7 in Final hit a tally of 687.7 to grab the Gold. Sonja Eilschifter of Germany grabbed Silver with a total score of 685.4 that included (585 – 32x) + 100.4 in final. Annik Marguit of Switzerland took the Bronze with a score of 681.2 (582-3x) and 99.2 in final.
