Chennai Super Kings Vs Wayamba Summary
The match could have been taken as India Vs Sri Lanka match, if Morkel, Hayden and Muralitharan were not present in CSK’s team. But, the result proved Wayamba has a long way to go in the tournament as they were outclassed by CSK. Hayden was out cheaply. But, Raina in the company of confident Murali Vijay showed Wayamba why CSK is the champion. Their assault left Wayamba confused on their strategy. Every bowler, including Mendis, was sent to laundry. When Wayamba came to chase 201 runs, Morkel and Bollinger, joined by Ashwin put them in backfoot. Wayamba lost by 97 runs.
Chennai Super Kings Vs Wayamba Scorecard and Match Facts
Question of the Day: Can Dhoni and Hayden Smash the ball ever-again?When Dhoni came to bat today, Raina and Murali Vijay had already smashed the Wayamba bowlers at will. Coming in the 18th over, Dhoni could score just 10 runs in the 9 balls he faced. He remained not out, but it is irony that he could not score more runs when Wayamba bowlers were feeling down. Quite a contrast to the performance by number 6 and 7 batsmen of Redbacks against MI, who faced 5 balls each and score more than 11 runs a piece, that too when they were under pressure to win the match by scoring more than 12 runs an over. Dhoni could not hit runs without any pressure.
Hayden on the other hand has been a failure since IPL 2010. Even against CD in first match he got a first ball duck. He was cautious against Wayamba, but could not middle the ball. Mendis ended his pain by sending him to pavillion on just 10 runs. Another poor performance.
Dhoni and Hayden will be forgiven as CSK won. But in the next two games, they will have to take the bull by horn, or else CSK might have to return before the semifinals.
Best Bowler of the Day
Morkel took 3 wickets in his 3 over opening spell to send Wayamba home much before the match finished. His strike in the first over rocked Wayamba. In next 2 overs 2 more top-order wickets led to the collapse. He gave 22 runs in 3 overs spell taking 3 crucial wickets. His spell forced Wayamba to succumb. Ashwin got 4 wickets later, but Morkel spelt doom on Wayamba.
First-time 4 wickets
Ashwin of CSK took 4 Wayamba wickets for just 18 runs in his 4 overs spell. With 6 wickets in 2 matches he shares the leading wicket tally for the tournament.
Most Expensive Over of the Tournament
Mendis gave 28 runs in his last over. Raina hit 4 sixes and twice took couple. No wonder Dhoni claims Indians have got the trick of Mendis now.
Best Batsman of the Day
Raina is the Best Batsman of the day.
4 half-centuries were scored. Finch remained not out on 93 runs to take his side home in the last over. Yet his side had lost just 3 wickets in the match and that raises question about the CD bowling. Raina on the other hand scored a smashing 87 runs that accelerated the run rate so high that despite poor performance by Dhoni and Morkel in the last 2 overs, CSK managed to reach 200.
First time 200 runs
CSK became the first team to score 200 runs. Earlier no team had crossed 190 runs in this tournament.
Most Sixes
Suresh Raina of CSK hit 6 sixes, the highest by any batsmen in one inning of this tournament so far.
From here on CSK faces the tough teams. Now the steel will be tested, as they need at least one win to reach SF. They should reach SF comfortably.
