ICC team has decided that Feb 27 match between host India and England can not be played in Eden Gardens. The inspection committee found the stadium not fit for the World Cup match. The new venue for match will be decided later.
The decision has left the Cricket fans of Kolkata, and India shocked. Many fans have already planned their travel schedule according to the match. After a long gap, Kolkata was to host a World-class cricket match. Yet, safety obviously comes first when it comes to world-class matches.
Ironically, world’s richest cricket board has again failed to provide a stadium that is fit enough for an international match. Delhi’s Ferozshah Kotla Ground had been banned earlier by ICC only to be revoked after correction. Now, the Cricket Board of West Bengal and BCCI could not prepare their most popular stadium in time.
ICC, BCCI or Cricket Association of Bengal have different versions to support their reason. Some of the speakers have even associated the decision to internal politics of BCCI. Blame games can go on forever.
Yet, the basic question remains unanswered. What stopped CAB and BCCI from preparing stadiums before schedule!! It can not be money, off course. But, anyone from BCCI or CAB has the will to justify why cricket fans deserved the defaming of Eden Gardens!!
