India made international debut at Lord’s in 1932. But, the Home of Cricket is the place where Indians would probably never like to play a test. In the history of 86 years of its international Test Cricket, India has tasted just two win there in the 17 tests played during 17 test series in England. Starting from 1932 till last series of 2014 in England they have lost 11 matches and almost all by huge margins. But, they won the last test match in 2014. 1932: Ind Lost
India played its first test match at Lord’s. England won by 158 runs. Indian pacer Nissar picked 5/32. Indian bowlers packed England for 259 and 275/8. But Indian batsmen succumbed to 189 and 187.
1936: Ind Lost
England won First of the 3-Test series by 9 wickets. India was bowled out at 147 & 93. G Allen rocked India with two 5-wkts haul in both innings. Indian bowlers came good in first inning bowling out England for 134. Amar Singh grabbed 6/35.
1946: Ind Lost
England again won first game of the 3-test series, by 10 wickets. Despite Lala Amarnath grabbing 5/118, England scored 428 with an undefeated double century (205) from Hardstaff Junior. Indians were bowled out for 200 and 275. Alec Bedser rocked India in his debut match taking 11 wickets grabbing 7/49 in first innings.
1952: Ind Lost
2nd test of the 4-test series was won again by England, by 8 wickets. India scored 235 & 378 with Vinoo Mankad scoring 184 in second innings. However England’s first inning total of 537 scored with centuries from captain Len Hutton (150) and wicketkeeper 104 (T Evans) was big task to avoid defeat. Mankad also grabbed 5 wickets.
1959: Ind Lost
England won again by 8 wickets in the second test of the 5-test series. India were bowled out at 168 & 165. Greenhough grabbed 5/35 for England. R Desai’s 5/89 led England downfall to 226 in first innings.
1967: Ind Lost
In the second test of the 3-test series India sufferred huge defeat by an innings and 124 runs. India were bowled out on 152 & 110 with Illingworth taking 6/29 in second innings. Despite Chandrasekhar’s 5/127 England scored 386 with 151 from Graveney.
1971: DRAW
India earned first draw at Lord’s in the first test of the series. Chasing 183 runs they were stranded at 145/8. English bowler Snow was punished and left out of the squad for second test after he had collided with Gavaskar during the test. England scored 304 & 191 trapped in the spin of Venkat, Chandra and Bedi. India scored 313 & 145/8.
1974: Ind Lost
Biggest win by England by an innings and 285 runs. England amassed 629 with centuries from Amiss (188), captain Denness (118) and A Greig (106). Bedi grabbed 6/226. India scored 302 and then their lowest test score of 42. C Old took 5/21 and Arnold took 4/19.
1979: DRAW
Rain saved India as despite being bowled out again below 100 they escaped with second draw against England at Lord’s. India scored 96 & 318/4. Vengasarkar (103) & Viswanath (113) were involved in 210 runs partnership. England scored 419/9. Ian Botham grabbed 5/35.
1982: Ind Lost
England won the first test of the three test series by 7 wickets. England scored 433 & 67/3. Randall scored 126. Kapil Dev grabbed 5/125. After score of 128, following on India scored 369 with 157 of Vengasarkar. Botham grabbed 5/46 in first innings, Willis grabbed 6/101 in second innings.
1986: Ind WON
India finally tasted victory at Lord’s winning by 5 wickets. Vengasarkar registered record third consecutive century at Lord’s scoring undefeated 126. England scored 294 and 180 with 114 from Graham Gooch in first inning. Chetan Sharma grabbed 5/64 in first innings.India scored 341 and 136/5 to win.
Legendary Kapil Dev was the player of the match for his 5 wickets in two innings and undefeated 23 in the successful chase.
1990: Ind Lost
England returning to winning ways defeating India by 247 runs in the first test of the 3-Test series that gave them series victory by 1-0. Batting first England amassed 653/4 with triple century of captain Gooch (333) and centuries of Allan Lamb (139) and R Smith (100*). With centuries from Shastri (100) and Captain Azhar (121) India scored 454. But chasing 472 runs in second inning, after England scored 272/4 driven by second century of captain Gooch (123), Indians were bowled out on 224 runs. Tendulkar scored 10 and 24.
1996: DRAW
India played third draw at Lord’s. England scored 344 and 278/9. Wicketkeeper Russell scored 124. Venkatesh Prasad took 5/76. India scored 429 driven by debutants Ganguly (131) and Dravid (95). Tendulkar scored 31 only.
2002: Ind Lost
England regained supremacy in the first test of the 4-test series winning by 170 runs. England scored 487 and 301/6. Captain Nasser Hussain scored 155 in first innnings. Vaughan and Crawley scored 100 each in second innings. Zaher Khan grabbed 3 wickets in first innings. India scored 221 and 397. Agarkar scored undefeated 109 in second innings. Dravid scored 63, Tendulkar 12, and Laxman 74.
2007: DRAW
India earned fourth draw at Lord’s in the first test of the three test series. England scored 298 & 282. Strauss scored 96, Cook 36, Bell 20 and Pietersen 37 in the first innings. In the second innings Pietersen scored 134, Strauss 18, Cook 17, and Bell 9. Zaheer Khan grabbed 6 wickets, Sreesanth 3, but RP Singh with 7 wickets that included 5/59 in second innings was their best bowler.
India replied with 201 and 282/9 escaping defeat just by 1 wicket chasing the target of 380 runs. Captain Dravid scored 2 and 9. Tendulkar scored 37 and 16. Laxman scored 15 and 39. Dhoni went on duck in first innings, but his undefeated 76 in second innings saved India another routine loss at Lord’s. Anderson grabbed 5/42 in first innings while Tremlett got 1 wicket. Second innings saw Anderson earn 2 more wickets while Tremlett got 3 wickets more.
2011: Ind lost by 196 runs
India lost 11th Test at Lord’s. Led by Captain Strauss, England declared with 474/8 on board riding on double century of Pietersen (202*), his 17th century, second against India at Lord’s. Praveen Kumar registered his maiden 5-wicket haul in international matches. Despite unbeaten 103 runs by Dravid, India were bundled out for 286 runs just managing above the follow on mark. England scored 269/6 in the second innings with century by Matt Prior (103*), despite being 107/6, as he added unbeaten 162 runs with Broad (74*) for 7th wicket in second innings. Set a target of 458 runs, India was bundled out for 261 runs as Anderson grabbed 5/65.
2014: Ind won by 95 runs
India won 2nd test at Lord’s. Indians were bowled out for 295 and but England could manage lead of only 24 runs. Indians scored 342 runs in second innings and 7/74 by Ishant Sharma was enough to bowl out England on 223.
