The 5-test series was one of the most one-sided series. England won 5-0. With three win secured by an innings margin, there is not much to sympathesize with Indian team led by D Gaekwad.
Batsmen
Barrington with 357 runs was the top scorer of the series with 4 half-centuries. Captain Cowdrey aggregated 344 runs with a century and 2 50s. M Smith (243) and Pullar (242) also relished the Indian attack.
Except Umrigar who made 227 runs and Nadkarni who played just one inning scoring 76 runs there were no front performers in Indian team. Nari Contractor scored two half-centuries to aggregate 197 runs in 6 innings. P Roy failed miserably scoring just one half-century, 3 ducks and 8 below 20 scores.
Baig scored a century but could score only 139 in 3 innings. Vijay Manjrekar (134) also failed to do much in his 4 innings.
Bowling
Truemen continued his 7 years old devastation taking 24 wickets. With 90 Indian wickets taken by English bowlers, Statham (17), Greenhough (14), Moss and Rhodes (7 wicket each) were other contributors.
For India Gupte and Surendranath shared the honours with 11 wickets each in the series which saw Indians taking only 40 English wickets.
Captains
Cowdrey with 344 runs was the second highest run-scorer of the series. Gaekwad could score only 117 runs 6 innings he played. P Roy captained the side in second test.
Wicketkeepers
Both tried two wicketkeepers each. India tried P Joshi and Tamhane, while England tried ageing Evans and young Swetman. Both hit a half-century each.
