The qualifiers had familiar Trinidad & Tobago who have qualified every time in last three attempts and reached the final also on first attemptt. Sialkot lost the chance to to become the first Pakistani team to play the main tournament. While Sri Lankan champion Uva failed to become first Sri Lankan team after Wayamba to qualify, Hampshire failed but Yorkshire carried the English flag to main tournament. Second time proved lucky for Auckland Aces as they alongwith Yorkshire qualified for the tournament.
