DDs Innings
Sent to bat first Delhi Daredevils were on their knee by 7th over. Praveen Kumar continued his habit of giving early breakthrough. Mahela (4 runs, 4 balls, 1 boundary) was his target today on the 4th ball. Surprise number 4 van der Merwe (8 runs, 9 balls, 1 boundary) failed and nail in the coffin was Sehwag (21-ball 23 runs, 2 boundaries and a six) in the 7th over. Warner (36-ball 40 runs, 4 boundaries, 1 six) stayed till 18th over, watching others failing as Juneja (20-ball 14 runs, Kedar (0), Botha (1 run) went off. Even in the end Kings XI bowlers kept it tidy as in 2.4 overs unbeaten pair of Irfan Pathan (17-ball 14 runs with a boundary) and Agarkar (run-a-ball 9 runs) could add only 17 runs for 8th wicket.
For Kings XI, the bowlers kept DD under pressure. Awana bowled a maiden taking 1/21. Praveen started well and finished with 2/29. Harmeet Singh, grabbing his 2nd MOM of IPL, was the pick of the bowlers as he finished with 3/24 taking the wickets of Sehwag, Juneja and Kedar Jadhav. Bhatt grabbed 1/11.
KXIP Chase of 121 runs
Gilchrist started as if they wanted to improve NRR too. But Gilchrist (3-ball 6 runs) fell in the first over bowler by Irfan Pathan. Mandeep Singh (15-ball 24 runs with 5 boundaries did not let the pace slow down. Pomersbach, playing his first game of season also added 10-ball 18 runs (3 boundaries). Unbeaten David Miller (39-ball 34 runs with 3 boundaries) took the responsibility of holding one end and taking them home as Manan Vohra (11-ball 8 runs with a boundary) and David Hussey (21-ball 20 runs with a boundary and a six) went down in the chase. Chawla (3-ball 5 runs) hit a boundary and the winning run of Nehra to win in 17 overs.
DD bowlers were as clueless as their batsmen. Mahela’s ploy of making his most economic bowler Nadeem sit out to let two South African spinning allrounders play would be questioned. If the idea was to strengthen batting it was poor decision as why do you want to change your playing XI that finally won you a match!!
van der Merwe bowled a maiden and was economic with 1/17. Botha (1/23) was good too. But Irfan Pathan (1/26 in 2 overs), Nehra (1/28 in 3 overs) were very expensive. Umesh Yadav had 19/0 in 3 overs, Agarkar was given only one over and gave only 4 runs.
