Amit Mishra with his 2 wickets not only grabbed the Purple Cap taking his tally to 11 wickets, but also equalled the 85-wicket record of Malinga of the highest wicket taking bowler of IPL. 19-year old Vihari earned his second MOM of the edition.

Kings XI batting
Gilchrist elected to bat first considering the past record where teams batting first have managed to defend the low totals. They made changes to get a higher score though as Valthaty, the destroyer emerging in 2010 IPL, and Mascarenhas, the English allrounder was drafted in the team. But the result was not much different as they could score only 123/9.
Throughout the innings there were few overs of 10 runs or more. In the 5th over Gilchrist took 12 of Perera’s first over. 11th over saw Piyush Chawla hitting Karan Sharma out of park twice as Kings XI got 14 runs in the over. 13th over had 9 runs of Ishant Sharma’s over. 16th over had 10 runs coming out of Mishra’s over. But otherwise the run rate was under control.
First 6 overs saw Kings XI losing Mandeep Singh and scoring 42/1. By the end of 10th over the run rate was reduced as wickets tumbled with score reading 55/3. The creative thinking of sending Piyush Chawla to attack the double leg spin dominating attack of Karan Sharma and Mishra helped Kings XI.
Mandeep Singh (10 runs) was the first to go, Gilchrist (26 runs) followed him in 9th over and same over of Karan Sharma saw Valthaty (6 runs) back to pavilion. Chawla (23 runs, 15 balls, 1 boundary, 2 sixes) and David Hussey (22 runs, 24 balls, 1 boundary and a six) added 40 runs in 5.1 overs. Chawla fell in 15th over while Hussey fell in 17th over. At the end of `6.3 overs score read 104/5 and decent score was expected. But Azhar Mahmood (4), Gony and Vohra (o for both) went in quick succession. In the end Mascarenhas (5*) and Praveen Kumar (3*) took them to 123/9.
For Sunrisers Vihari opened the attack and gave only 2 runs in his only over. Steyn (14/1) was again economic. Ishant (29/2), Amit Mishra (29/2) and Karan Shara (19/2) were among the wickets.
Sunriser’s Chase of 124 runs
Sunriser Hyderabad love to chase small total and make the match interesting as none of their batsmen are succeeding. Today’s match was no different as they had a bad start. A typical wicket-maiden Praveen Kumar’s over saw de Kock going on 0. Ashrath Reddy and Vihari added 48 runs but they took 7 overs. Ashrath (17-ball 19 runs) fell in 8th over. Vihari added another 22 runs with White. He was the pick of the batsmen as he scored 39-ball fluent 46 runs with 5 boundaries. White (23-ball 16 runs) struggled and was clean bowled by Gony. Samantray (10 runs) was unlucky to be given leg before wicket. Perera was joined by Ashish Reddy when Sunrisers needed 27 runs from 23 balls. In the last two overs Sunrisers needed 18 runs, and Perera hit Azhar Mahmood for 3 sixes in the 19th over to seal the match by 5 wickets for Kings XI.
Praveen Kumar (12/1 in 3 overs) was the pick of Kings XI bowling. Gony (24/2) was most successful, while Chawla (25/1) and Azhar Mahmood (36/1) were among the wickets.
