India competed in Davis Cup for the first time in 1921. Their best finish is being runners-up thrice. India has reached the finals in 1966, 1974 and 1987. In 1974, India were the favorites to win but they refused to travel to South Africa protesting apartheid policies.
At present, India is ranked 23, while Serbia is ranked 2. Overall in 78 years India has played 187 Ties, winning 112 and losing 75. Only on 13 Occasions India has remained in the World Group.
