2014 Sultan of Johor Cup: Hermanpreet Hattrick Thumps Aussies, India In Final

India trounced Australia in their last group match to set the final against Great Britain. India needed just a draw, while Australia needed to win to enter the final. Going by the past record, the expectation was of Aussie win. But Indians U-21 team showed great intent and crushed the Australians 6-2 as Hermanpreet scored his second hattrick of the tournament. The final will be played tomorrow at 18:05 IST.

If Britain loses their match against New Zealand later in the day today, Indian can finish on the top of the Points Tally.

Indians showed a clinical display to shed the fear of Aussies, against whom they have been losing continuously at every level and were 5-1 up by half-time scoring the first four goals of the match.

The first penalty corner was earned by Australia but they failed to convert and after that in a whiff India were 4-0 up. In the 5th minute Hermanpreet Singh scored the first match of the goal with a penalty corner. Parvinder Singh scored a field goal in the 9th minute. Another field goal came through Simarenjit Singh in 19th minute and then in the 23rd minute Pawan Kumar the fourth goal.

Finally Aussies could score a goal in the 24th minute when Brendan Hornier converted their Penalty corner. There was no return though for Australians as they did against New Zealand when they won 4-3 after conceding 3 goals first as through a penalty stroke Hermanpreet made the score 5-1, and later returned to completed his second hattrick of the tournament by converting another penalty corner in the 44th minute. Brendan scored second goal for Aussies in the 64th minute, but the result was a thumping of Aussies by 6-2.

Other Matches of the Day
Pakistan and Malaysia played 2-2 draw to end their campaign without a win. Pakistan finished at the bottom of the table with a goal difference of -12.

Group topper undefeated team Great Britain defeated New Zealand 3-0.
