Sarjubala and Saweety created history of sorts for India by reaching the final of the 2014 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships, as Kavita lost at the quarterfinal stage missing the chance to earn her third consecutive medal (Bronze). This is only the third time in 8 editions that more than one Indian women boxer has reached the final. In 2006 at Delhi, maximum 5 Indian boxers reached the final, while in 2010 two boxers reached the final. Mary Kom (2001 in 48 Kg) and Usha Nagisetty (2006 and 2010 in 57 Kg) are the only two Indian women boxers to have won the silver medals. Besides 5 consecutive Gold medals of Mary Kom from 2002 to 2010, India has earned 3 more Gold medals in 2006 when they hosted the World Championships in 2006. Sarjubala and Saweety will play for Gold medal on Nov 24 at 07.30 p.m. Indian Time.
