
2014 has been probably the best year for India in Badminton. 8 players won various international titles, 32 years wait in Commonwealth Games ended, Srikanth finished the year as World No. 4 while Saina got back to her form winning three titles. The Women’s Team also won Bronze at the Uber Cup, besides winning the Bronze at Asian Games.
Commonwealth Games: 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze
The biggest win came from Parupalli Kashyap who won the Gold at Commonwealth Games, 2014 ending India’s 32 years wait for Men’s title.
Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa won the Silver Medal in Women’s Doubles, while Gurusai Dutt and PV Sindhu won the Bronze medals in Men’s and Women’s Singles event, respectively.
PV Sindhu
PV Sindhu created history by becoming the first Indian to win two back-to-back medals in the World Badminton Championships. PV Sindhu reached the final of India Grand Priz Gold and won the Bronze at the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Badminton Championship. She won the Macau Open Badminton Championships.
China Open
Saina Nehwal and Srikanth defeated Chinese at China to win the China Open, providing Indians the first opportunity where two Indians won the Men’s and Singles title of the same edition of a tournament. K Srikanth also reached the semifinal of the BWF Master Super Series Finals.
Saina Nehwal
Saina won three titles, winning India Grand Prix Gold, Australia Super Series and China Super Series. She reached the semifinal of the BWF Master Super Series Finals also.
HS Prannoy
He won the Indonesia Open Grand Prix Gold and reached the final of Vietnam Open Grand Prix.
Aravind Bhat
He won the German Open.
Sourabh Verma
He won Iran Fajr International Challenge and Austrian International Challenge 2014 besides finishing second at the 2014 Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold.
PC Thulasi
She won the Indian Club Centenary Li-Ning Bahrain International Challenge 2014
