India Open Super Series: Saina and Srikanth Enter Semifinals

Top seed Saina Nehwal and 2nd Seed Srikanth stormed into the semifinal of India Open Super Series. This is the first semifinal for Indians in the India Open since 2011 when the event became part of Super Series category. HS Prannoy and Gurusaidutt lost their quarterfinal matches. The biggest upset of the day was the loss of 3rd seed Lin Dan (China) in Men’s Singles and 2nd seed Japanese pair of Endo/Kenichi in Men’s Doubles.

With the top seed Jorgensen already knocked out by HS Prannoy, K Srikanth is the top most seed left. He meets XUe Song (China) in semifinal, while top seed Saina Nehwal meets Yui Hashimoto (Japan) in Women’s semifinal.

In their only meeting, Hashimoto had defeated Saina Nehwal at India Open in 2013 13-21, 21-12, 22-20 in the 2nd round.

Srikanth and Song have played twice against each other winning a match each. Song def Srikanthh in India Grand Prix Gold 2014 16-21 21-19 21-13, while Srikanth def Song in Denmark OPen 2014 21-15 17-21 21-18.

Quarterfinal Wins for Indians

    K Srikanth def Takuma Ueda (Japan) to win 21-15 23-25 21-18 in 1 hour 18 minutes.
    Saina Nehwal win 21-15, 21-12 vs Hana Ramadhini (Indonesia).

Quarterfinal Losses for Indians

    Gurusaidutt loses in quarterfinals 15-21, 21-18, 21-13 to Song Xue of China.
    H. S. Prannoy loses QF match to 6th seed Danish Viktor AXELSEN 16-21 21-9 21-18.
