Malaysian Open Super Series 2015: 10 Big Upsets in 1st Round Including Two Top Seeds

The first round of Malaysian Open Super Series 2015 was a day of major upsets. It saw 5 of the top 8 seeds, including the top 2 seeds from Women’s Doubles knocked out while Men’s Singles saw the exit of 3rd seed Korean Wan with other three seeds including the recently concluded Indian Open 2015 Runners up. The Women’s Doubles top seeds recently won the India Open.

Women’s Doubles

    Top seeds Japanese pair of Matsutomo/Ayaka were knocked out by chinese unseeded pair of Dongui/Xiaohan 17-21 21-18 21-14.
    2nd seed Christinna Pedersen/Kamilla Rytter lost to Indonesian pair of Anggia/Mahadevi 21-18, 21-9 in 36 minutes.
    4th seed Reika/Miyuki lost to unseeded Korean pair of Chang/Jung.
    7th seed Lee So Hee/Shin Seung Chan (Korea) lost to Isabell/Birgit (Germany) 14-21 21-13 21-14 in 1 hour 5 minutes.
    8th seed Indonesian Mixed Doubles pair of Widianto/Puspita were knocked out by unseeded Danish pair.

Men’s Singles

    3rd seed Wan Ho Son (Korea) was knocked out by Song Xue (China) 21-14 21-8.
    India Open finalist 6th seed Viktor Axelsen was knocked out by Yun Hu (Hong Kong) 21-17 13-21 21-16 in 57 minutes.
    7th seed Tien Chen Chou (Taipei) lost to Zhengming Wang (China)
    8th seed Hans-Kristian VITTINGHUS lost the Men’s Singles match to Nan Wei (Hong Kong)

Women’s Singles

    7th seed Tzu Ying Tai (Taipei) was knocked out by Beiwen Zhang (USA) 18-21 22-20 21-12
