Ind vs WI 1st Test: Ashwin Helps India Register Biggest Win Outside Asia

It was inevitable, right from Day 1. The writing on the wall did not appear wrong even for one of the eight 12 sessions played in this first test of the series. Indians were never challenged, and not surprisingly they registered their biggest test win outside Asia. Ashwin’s first 5-wicket haul outside played a key role in India’s biggest test win outside Asia. India won by an innings and 92 runs, taking 1-0 lead in the 4-test series.

India improved their test winning record outside Asia with this biggest win. Earlier, their biggest Test win outside Asia was by an innings and 90 runs at Bulawayo against Zimbabwe in 2005-06.

Summary
Resuming from 1/21 of Day 3, Indian intention to finish the test on Day 4 was clear from the first over. In the first over, Umesh Yadav removed Darren Bravo (10) caught by Rahane without any addition to the score. Chandrika (31) added 67 runs for third wicket with Samuels (50). But, from there the magical spell of Ashwin started. Chandrika, and Blackwood (again for a duck) became his victim in the same over. Chase (8) and Samuels followed soon. Holder (16), Bishoo (45) and Gabriel (4) completed his 7/83 haul of the innings, his best outside Asia.

In between Dowrich (9) was given leg before to Amit Mishra, who finished with 1/61. Ishant Sharma (1/27) and Umesh Yadav (1/34) were other successful bowlers. Shami (0/26) remained wicketless bowling the least overs.
