Hong Kong Open 2016: Sameer, Sindhu Enter Semis, Saina, Jayaram lose

Saina’s second tournament after injury ended in Quarters as she had to stretch to the third set for the third consecutive match of the tournament. Back from injury, fitness played a key role as she was forced to bow out in the Quarterfinals. While Saina and Jayaram lost to players from Hong Kong, China Open champion and India’s new winner of Super Series, PV Sindhu entered semifinal with Sameer Verma.

Hong Kong Open 2016 Round 2 Results

Sameer Verma defeated Chong who had defeated HS Prannoy in the 2nd round. He will play 3rd seed Jorgensen in the semifinal tomorrow. They have never played before against each other.

PV Sindhu will play Cheung, who stopped much-awaited Saina vs Sindhu clash. Sindhu has won both the matches she had played before against Cheung Ngan Yi. She first won at Malaysia Grand Prix Gold 2013 and then at Badminton Asia Championships 2014.

    Sameer Verma def Wei Feng Chong (Malaysia) 21-17 23-21 in 47 minutes
    5th seed Saina Nehwal lost to Cheung Ngan Yi (Hong Kong) 21-8 18-21 21-19 in 1 hour 11 minutes.
    Ajay Jayaram lost to NG Ka Long Angus (Hong Kong) 21-15 21-14 in 32 minutes.
