World Super Series Finals: Praying Chinese Sun to Win, Olympic Finalists Marin, Sindhu Eye Semis Spot

After completion of Round 2 at BWF World Super Series Finals 2016, as top seeds were knocked out in Mixed Doubles, Rio Olympics finalist Sindhu and Marin are in a spot of bother. While Marin lost her second match today, Sindhu lost in straight set after winning the first match. As they clash first time after Olympic finals, both may be knocked out without playing if Japanese Akane defeats the group topper Sun Yu from China. So, first they need to pray for Chinese Sun to win and then the winner will have best chance to grab the second spot. After Round 2 of Dubai World Super Series Finals, Top 2 seeds of Men’s Singles, three from Women’s Singles, three teams each in all Doubles event have sealed the semifinal spot. Men’s Singles
Group ATriangular fight for second semifinal spot as top seed has qualified already. Jorgensen won both in 2 sets each. Houwei has one win, while Yun Hu and Zwiebler have lost both. In the last round, unless Houwei lose Yun Hu has a chance if he defeats Zwiebler in straight sets.

Group B2nd seed Wan Ho Son (Korea) has qualified with two wins, Angus NG has no chance with two losses. Viktor vs Lee Chong Wei in the last round will decide the second semifinalist. Both have won a match each.

Women’s Singles
Group ATop seed Tzu Ying Tai and Ji Hyun Sung have already sealed the spots for semifinals. Both have won two matches each, while Bingjiao and Intanon lost both. Last round will just decide the group topper.

Group BWhile only one of the Olympic Finalists are in contention of semifinal, Yu Sun has sealed her spot with two consecutive wins. Triangular contest between Sindhu, Akane and Marin to seal second spot.

-Sindhu needs just a win to enter semis
-Marin must win in straight sets and Akane should lose in straight sets
If Sun Yu wins, Sindhu or Marin must win in straight sets to go past Akane.

Men’s Doubles
Group A: Danish pair with two straight wins is through to the semifinals, while having registered one win each top seeds Japanese pair vs Indonesian pair of Marcus / Kevin will decide the second semifinalist. Other Indonesian pair of Angga/Ricky lost both matches.

Women’s Doubles
Group AThe semifinalists are decided already with top seed Japanese pair and Korean pair winning both the matches, while other Japanese and Chinese pair losing both.

Group BChinese pair surprised all by sealing the first semifinal spot winning both matches. The third round match between 2nd seed Danish pair and Korean pair will send the second team from this group.
