Asian Wrestling Championships 2017: Bajrang Punia Wins Gold, India finish 5th

After 5 days of Asian Wrestling Championships 2017, India emerged as 5th in ranking as well as in number of medals won. In the 30th edition of Asian Championship, Indians could not replicate their performance of 2013 when they hosted and won Men’s Freestyle dethrining Iran. India hosted the event for the seventh occasion., starting from inaugural 1979 edition. Indians only Gold came from Bajrang Punia, while others won 5 silver and 4 Bronze wherein women wrestlers won medals in 4 of the 5 events they participated.

Japan finished on top with 8 Gold medals followed by Iran with 7 Gold medals. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan grabbed 2 gold medals each to finish third and fourth.
Overall Indians have won 11 Gold medals, 54 Silver Medals and 81 Bronze medals to be placed at 10th in all Asian Wrestling Championships.
