French Open SS: Kidambi Srikanth Joins Top 4 league in the World to Win 4 Super Series in a Year

After 25-minute finals last week, now 8th seed Srikanth Kidambi required just 35 minutes to win his second back-to-back Super Series title after last week’s Denmark Open Super Series title. In the process, with 4 Super Series title in a year he also became only the fourth player (after Lin Dan, Lee Chong Wei and Chen Long) in the world to win 4 or more Super Series in a calendar year. Among Indian, he broke Saina Nehwal’s 2010 feat of winning three Super Series. While the two Singles event saw Japan finishing as Runners up, French Open Super Series 2017 saw other four events won equally by Indonesia and Chinese Taipei, with both winning two events each. This was India’s 7th French Open title, overall 36th Super Series title and 34th title in 2017.

Srikanth def Kenta Nishimoto 21-14 21-13 in 35 minutes registering his second win in as many matches against the 40th seed Japanese. Earlier, he won at Singapore open against Nishimoto.

For India, Sindhu and HS Prannoy reached the semifinals, while 4 reached the quarterfinals at French Open Super Series 2017.

In 2017, Srikanth has won Indonesian Super Series, Australian Super Series, Denmark Open Super Series and now French Open Super Series. He also reached the finals of Singapore Open 2017
