Day 1 of Badminton World Championships 2018 saw Indian start with a defeat in Women’s Doubles but then 2 Men’s Singles, 1 Men’s Doubles and 4 Mixed Doubles helped India end day by winning all remaining 7 matches. On Day 1, overall 4 matches lasted more than 1 hour while the shortest match was of 18 minutes between players from other nations.     1. Manu Attri / Sumeeth Reddy have set up clash with 7th seed Japanese pair Takuto Inoue and Yuki Kaneko in 2nd Round. Head-to-head they have played only one match in 2013 Polish Open where Japanese pair won 21-16 21-16.
    2. 11th seed HS Prannoy def Abhinav Manota (New Zealand) 21-12 21-11. He will meet 39th seed Ygor Coelho of Brazil in Round 2. They have not played each other before.
    3. Pranaav Jerry Chopra / Sikki Reddy def Czech Republic pair 21-17 21-15 in 30 minutes to set up 2nd Round clash with 12th seed Indonesian pair whom they have defeated the only time they met at Indian Open 2018 when they won 21-16 17-21 17-21.
    4. Sameer Verma wins 21-13 21-10 to set up Round 2 clash with 9th seed Lin Dan, who leads Sameer 1-0 after winning 21-19 21-9 at New Zealand Open 2018.
    5. Mixed Doubles team of Saurabh Sharma / Anoushka Parikh won 21-13 21-12 to set up Round 2 match with 8th seed Malaysian pair. They will play each other first time.
    6. Mixed Doubles team Satwik and Ashwini, seeded 39th, win 21-9 22-20 in 36 minutes to set up Round 2 match with 15th seed German pair.
    7. Coming directly from Russian Open after winning Silver medals, Mixed Doubles pair of Rohan Kapoor / Kuhoo Garg won 21-19 21-6 in 28 mnts to set up 2nd Round clash with 6th seed English pair of AdCock couple.
