
Indians participated in 4 Sports and won 14 medals at Tokyo Asian Games. All the 5 Golds were won in Athletics while Boxing and Hockey contributed to two of the four silver medals and Volleyball, Boxing teams won a Bronze each out of 4 Bronze medals. With 14 medals, Indians finished 7th as Milkha Singh won twin Gold, while Parduman Singh Brar won overall his third Gold medal in two Asian Games.

Athletics
Milkha Singh announced his arrival with twin Gold while Parduman Singh Brar won two more medals defending his Shot put title as Indians finished third behind Japan and Pakistan with 5 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze medals. Women’s contributed three medals with Volleyball and Hockey team winning first medals.
Boxing
3-member Indian squad finished 8th with a Silver from Hari Singh and a Bronze medal from Sundar Rao.
Football
Indians finished fourth overall as they finished second at Group B winning 3-2 against Burma and losing against Group Topper Indonesia 1-2. They knocked out Hong Kong in QF during extra time winning 5-2, but lost semifinals against South Korea by 3-1. In Bronze medal match, they lost agains to Indonesia 4-1.
Hockey
Indians finished second to Pakistan in debut of Hockey at Asian Games. In the Round Robin league event, both had 7 points, but Pakistan had Goal difference of +19 as compared to +15 of India. Pakistan scored 19 goals without conceding any. Indians scored 16 goals and conceded 1. The last match of event played between both finished in a draw as both failed to score.
