Athletics
Indians won 5 Gold, 5 Silver and 5 Bronze to finish second behind Japan. Kamaljeed Sandhu won the first gold medal in Women’s event.

Basketball
Indians finished on top in Group C winning 2 matches against Thailand (70-64) and Malaysia (77-72) despite losing against China (71-74), who lost to Thailand and finish second at Group.
But, in the Championship Group matches they lost all 5 matches to finish 6th. They lost to Gold winner South Korea (54-93), Silver winner Israel (74-82), Bronze winner Japan, China (53-78) and Philippines (79-97).

Boxing
Indians won a Gold and a silver to finish 4th. Hawa Singh won his second consecutive Gold medal.

Hockey
Indians Men’s team won Silver.
In Group A, Indians scored 15 goals without conceding any as they def Singapore (7-0), Ceylon (6-0) and Malaysia (2-0). They defeated Japan 1-0 in semis but lost to Pakistan by a solitary goal in final.

Indians made a promising start by topping the Group A winning against South Vietnam 2-0 and drawing with Thailand 2-2. But, They lost semifinals to Burma 0-2 and then won Bronze medal by defeating Japan 1-0.

Water polo
Indian Men’s team won Silver. They topped the Group A With wins against Thailand (4-3) and Indonesia (9-6) and drawing against Singapore (7-7). In semifinals, they defeated Iran (6-3) but lost final against Japan (2-4)
