Women’s Boxing World Championship 2018: Mary Kom Equals Men’s World Record Winning 6th Gold

As Mary Kom won World Record 6th Gold and Sonia Chahal won Silver on final day, Indians finished third in the medal tally with 4 medals that includes Bronze won yesterday by Simranjeet and Lovlina. Only the leader, China won more medals than hosts, India. China won 4 Gold and a Silver. Chinese Taipeie finished second 2 Gold medals. North Korea, Germany and Ireland won a Gold medal each as 6 countries won Gold and 21 out of 73 nations won at least a medal each.

    Silver: Sonia Chahal (54-57 kg)
    Bronze: Lovlina Borgohain (64-69 kg)
    Bronze: Simranjeet Kaur (64 Kg)

Mary Kom became the second pugilist after Felix Savon (Cuba) in Men’s Boxing to have won 6 Gold and a Silver in World Championshops. Felix won from 1986 to 1999. Mary Kom, India’s first medal winner, won her first medal in the inaugural 2001 World Championship.
