From 80 participating Countries, 33 nations entered Quarterfinals Indian with 8 boxers were second behind China’s 9 pugilists in number. As 4 Indian boxers stormed into the semifinals, legendary Mary Kom created new record in Women’s Boxing by ensuring her 7th medal in World Cup edging past Katie Taylor of Ireland. In Men’s Boxing, only Felix Savon (1986-99 in 91 Kg) of Cuba has won 7 medals. Mary Kom was joined in semifinal by Simranjeet, Lovlina and Sonia Lather, who has also won Silver in 2016 World Cup.

Making her debut in 2001 World Championship with a Silver in 48 Kg, losing against Turkish Hulya Sahin, Mary Kom won 5 consecutive Gold medals from 2002 (45 Kg), 2005 (46 Kg), 2006 (46 Kg), 2008 (46 Kg) to 2010 (48 Kg). She was tied on 6 medals with Katie Taylor who won 5 Gold and 1 Bronze in 60 Kg event from 2006 to 2016.
