China Open 2010: Kamal loses, India’s Campaign end prematurely

Suzhou, China: The Commonwealth Champions Indian team has made an early exit in the China Open 2010 for Table Tennis. Sharath Kamal was the best Indian hope, but even he could not move beyond first round in the Singles event.

Sharath lost his last match and India’s last representation too, when he could not win the final set of the Men’s Doubles in the pre-quarterfinal. Pairing with the swede Par Gerell, he lost 11-8, 9-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-13, 5-11 to the German pair of Patrick Baum and Bastian Steger. He paired with Gerell as his regular partner Subhajit Saha got injured.

Earlier Kamal, ranked 39, has lost his singles match in the first round to Par Gerell, his doubles partner. Incidentally their last two matches have resulted in favor of the swede, Par Gerell.

Scheduled from 18-22 August, China Open 2010 also saw Indian participants Abhishek Ravichandran, Soumyajit Ghosh and Madhurika Patkar bowing out in their first round. Madhurika was the only Indian woman to enter Women’s Singles event.
