Both have been phenomenal in IPL. CSK is the most successful team with 4 consecutive knockout entries, while RCB now is the second best with 3 knockout entries. Between them they have always played tough matches with 92 run win by CSK against RCB being the most one-sided match in 9 clashes, while RCBs 8 wicket win is their best against CSK.
2011 Performances
RCB seized the losing streak of 3 consecutive losses, after winnning the first game against Kochi Tuskers. In the second match they were thumped by Mumbai Indians. Then failed to chase high target against Deccan Chargers, and lost without fight against Chennai Super Kings. After the washed-out match against Rajasthan Royals, Gayle-force thwarted the strong Knight Riders. The top-order ensured another smooth victory against Pune Warriors. Gayle’s record century and all-round performance ensured another thumping win against Kings XI in the last match. Gayle’s record blast helped another easy victory against Kochi Tuskers. They thumped Rajasthan Royals at Jaipur and after defeating KKR RCB created a record 7-match winning streak. But after that Kings XI registered IPLs 2nd biggest victory against them. Yet they recovered in time to defeat CSK in their last match and finished as group topper. In the Play-off RCB lost to CSK by 6 wickets but managed to defeat MI by 43 runs to enter the final.
Chennai Super Kings had a balanced and composed tournament so far with 2 victories and 1 loss. The teams looks formiddable, although batting is ruled by Indians till now, except one performance from Hussey. They have snatched victory from the mouth of defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders in firtst match. Kings XI surprised them with the Valthaty hammer, whereas against Royal Chalengers, the comfortable victory brought calm and composed look back on team member’s face. They were the last victim of Tuskers wonderful campaign and lost comfortably in the rain-curtailed match. Later they also lost to the Group Champion Mumbai Indians, and comfortably won the first match against Pune Warriors, defending a low total. The back-to-back match against Pune Warriors saw CSK making a clinical chase of small total. Then, at home they registered easy victory over clueless Chargers. They won the home match convincingly against RR, but lost meekly the away match against KKR. In the away game against RR, they easily dented Jaipur forte too. Later they easily swalloed Sehwag-less DD at home. In a close match they came better off Kochi Tuskers, before being knocked down by RCB in their final group match. CSK def RCB in the play-off to seal their 3rd final.
Player’s Performance in 2011
RCB Player’s performance index indicate 75 wickets for bowlers in 15 matches, one group match was washed out. Gayle’s conssitent run saw him wearing the Orange Cap after his 7th match, and retaining again in the last match. Kohli follows him WITH 522 RUNS, while AB de Villiers and Saurabh Tiwary have 100-plus total.
For Chennai, player’s performance index shows Raina and Hussey are separated by just 1 run. Badrinath, Raina, Murali Vijay and Dhoni have also scored more than 300-runs while Morkel is in 100-club. Bollinger, Morkel and Ashwin are among the wickets. Overall CSK Bowlers have managed to take 77 wickets in 15 matches.

2008 Performances
CSK won 9 and lost 7 before losing in the nail-biting final against Rajasthan Royals.

Both registered 9 wins at group stage, but CSK lost 5 matches whereas RCB lost only 4 as one of their matches was washed off. CSK has one the only playoff played, against RCB, while Challengers have played two playoffs, winning one against MI and losing against CSK.

CSK is the best team of IPL in terms of result, reaching knockout in all editions, and Fairplay also, winning Kingfisher Fairplay twice. RCB can be termed as 2nd best now, reaching the final twice and knockout thrice.
