Ind Vs WI 1958-59 Test Series: WI won 3rd Consecutive Series

1958/59 Series saw India changing four captains, chaos in the Indian team, and then Gilchrist of West Indies being sent home due to indiscipline. WI won 3rd consecutive series comprehensively now with 3-0 difference. Gary Sobers in the company of Kanhai and Hall destroyed Indians.

West Indies and India played their third bilateral series after a gap of 7 years. The teams were completely changed. West Indies had few familiar faces of 1952 series. Ramadhin was one of them. The new Captain Alaexander had another greats of West Indies batting line up. Sobers, Kanhai and Wesley Hall were the players who later on went to become Cricket Greats from West Indies.

Indians now had Umrigar as the captain, who was the highest scorer of 1952/53 series against West Indies. The team still had many players who played in the last series. But overall they changed 4 captains in 5 Tests, adding further salt to their wound of poor display against the dreaded West Indies team.

Batsmen
Gary Sobers with 557 runs was the best batsmen of the series, hitting 3 centuries, while Kanhai with a double century scored 538 runs.
The team politics in India led to the worst Indian performance. P Roy with 338 was the highest scorer followed by 337 of Umrigar.

Allrounder
Sobers emerged as the best allrounder with 557 runs and 10 wickets.

Bowlers
Hall with 30 wickets and Gilchrist with 26 wickets devastated Indian. WI bowlers took 76 wickets.
Indians could take only 53 wickets, 22 of which went to Gupte.

Wicketkeepers
Alexander, the wicket-keeper captain of West Indies and Tamhane of India failed with the bat.

Captains
Alexander of WI and the four Indian captains failed miserably.
