Lord’s has been Unfriendly to Indian Bowlers

Indian bowling earned India the first World Cup in 1983, but since then except another performance when they successfully saved a low chase of 204 runs to taste another victory for India, Indian bowlers have failed to get any mercy at Lord’s. Mohinder Amarnath and Yuvraj are India’s best bowling performer at Lord’s. Interestingly both belong to allrounder category with batting as priority. Indian bowling has been effective on this ground, bowling out the mighty West Indies in 1983 World Cup final and England in 2002 NatWest Challenge. In other matches they could grab only 19 wickets.

Although Zaheer Khan, Kumble and Harbhajan have played 3 games on this venue, none of them have tasted success continuosuly. Zaheer has 4 wickets with 3/62 the best performance. Kumble could take only 1 wicket, while Harbhajan has 3 wickets with his best performance as 3/28.

India’s best performer was Mohinder Amarnath at Lord’s His 3/12 in 1983 World Cup final is still the best Indian performance here. Amarnath, Madan lal (3/31 in 1983 Final), Yuvraj (3/39), Zaheer (3/62) and Ashish Nehra (3/26) are the bowlers taking highest number of 4 wickets each on this venue.
