Lord’s is India’s Best ODI Ground

From winning the World Cup in 1975 to winning the historical NatWest Series Final in 2002 where they made the second highest run chase in ODI history (at that time), India has all the reason to consider Lord’s as their best ODI ground in the world, unlike Test matches where Lord’s has been their established nemesis.

India vs England 2011 Series: Results

India has played 6 matche at Lord’s since 1975 World Cup. They have lost their first and last matches at Lord’s against England. They won the four games in between. Importantly, they have won 3 against England and 1 against West Indies, while lost two to England.

In the two matches that England won, Indians were thrashed. While the first match of India at Lord’s in 1975 World Cup at Lord’s saw the slowest innings in an ODI match played by Gavaskar, but also a huge win for England by 202 runs, the last match played by India in 2007 series also saw England thrashing India by 7 wickets with almost 14 overs remaining.

Unwanted Records for India in the lost matches

England registered their biggest victory by runs in ODIs, winning by 202 runs.
India registered their 3rd biggest loss in ODI history, losing by 202 runs.
Engand registered the biggest ever victory, winning by 202, in ODI. Australia broke the record in 1985 when they defeated Sri Lanka by 232 runs.
Gavaskar, the opener, remained not out on 36 runs playing 174 balls, recording the slowest innings ever played in Cricket history by an unbeaten batsman playing throughout the innings.
Thrashing in 2007 match made India lose the ODI series 4-3.

But, besides the first and last matches at Lord’s, India has ruled the Mecca of Cricket in ODIs. They have created records and upset many calculations winning when they were never expected to win. Nobody can forget their 1983 World Cup Final match victory against West Indies at Lord’s. Then they recreated the magic by winning the Natwest Trophy Final in 2002, against England.

Records by India in the matches won

India became the second country, after West Indies to win the World Cup.
India chased the 2nd highest-ever total in ODI history in the Natwest Trophy Final in 2002. Now that run chase is ranked 8th highest in the World.
