Pakistan’s ODI History

Second Time beaten Two Biggies in a Tournament
In their historical 2012 Asia Cup, Banlgadesh have matched their feat of 2007 World Cup. This is only the second time for the lions when they have beaten two test playing nations in a tournament. At West Indies in 2007, they defeated India by 5 wickets and South Africa by 67 runs. Now, they have already earned their first victory against India and Sri Lanka in Asia Cup. Interestingly, overall both the victories are only their third victories against both the countries.

Record of Previous Final for Bangladesh
In the Tri-Nation Tournament held in Bangladesh in 2009, they reached their only finals of any tournament. Despite defeating Lanka at group stage, they lost to them in the finals in a close match by only 2 wickets. Zimbabwe was the third team of the tournament. Bangladesh lost their group match to them by 38 runs.

Being sent to bat first, their innings folded at 152 in 49.4 overs. Tamim (18), Mushfiqur (4), Captain Ashraful (13), Shakib (9), Mahmudullah (26), Mortaza (0) and Nazmul (0) could not do much. Raquibul Hasan was the top scorer with 107-ball undefeated 43 runs.

But, the bowlers and fielders almost won them the match. If it was not Maharoof (38*) and Muralitharan (33*), Sanga’s half-century would have been in vain. Nazmul (3/30), Shakib (2/22) and Mortaza (1/18) fought a tough battle in the 2-wicket defeat.

Chances for Final
They have won only one ODI against Pakistan, and lost the first match in current Asia Cup too. But the way they lost the match from a winning position and how they went on defeating World Cup 2011 finalists, India and Sri Lanka, they stand a strong chance to be able to write their name on a trophy for the first time.
