London Olympics Day 1: Indian Updates

The first day saw Archery teams playing for Ranking, besides the opening ceremony. The Men’s and Women’s team fared badly with Men’s team finishing at bottom and Women’s team finishing 9th.

Result Team:

    Men’s Team Ranking: Finished last among 12 teams (1969 points)
    Women Team Ranking: Finished 9th among 12 teams (1938 points)

Road Ahead
Indian Women meets Denmark now in pre-quarterfinals. The top four teams, US, Chinese Taipei, Mexico and Korea got a bye in the first round.

Ranked 5th in the World, Indian men will meet Japan in the pre-quarterfinals. Korea, France, China and the US, the top four teams, got a bye in the first round.

Result Individual
World No. 2 Deepika Kumari finished 8th scoring 662, Bombayla Devi was placed 22nd with score of 651 and Chekrovolu Swuro is placed 50th with a score of 625. 62 archers participated in the individual rankings.

Tarundeep Rai scoring 664, Rahul Banerjee with 655 and Jayanta Talukdar with 650 points finished 31st, 46th and 53rd respectively. 64 archers participated in the ranking round.

Road Ahead
Deepika Kumari will meet Amy Oliver (Britain) in the first round.
Bombayla meets Evangelia Pssarra (Greece) and Swuro meets Jennifer Nichols (USA) in the first round.

In the first round, Talukdar meets Jacob Wukie (USA), Tarundeep Rai meets Juan Carlos Stevens (Cuba), Rahul Banerjee meets Jantsan Gantugs (Mongolia).
