England Open Badminton Championships 2013: Saina and Kashyap in Quarters

On the 2nd day of Main events, Indians were left with only Saina and Kashyap in the main fray. Others lost. Saina and Kashyap move to the quarterfinals. Unseeded Kashyap created an upset while 2nd seed Saina moved on as expected. In today’s match both need to see of Chinese challenge to enter the semifinals.

The tournament only has two Europeans left in the quarterfinal as Tina Baun, who is set to retire and her teammate Jan O Jorgensen progresses to quarterfinals in their respective Singles events.

Upsets of the Day

    In Men’s Doubles, the top two seeds were knocked out.
    Top seeds and 2011 winners Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen were defeated by Liu Xiaolong and Qiu Zihan 11-21 21-11 27-25.
    second seeds Koo Kien Keat and Tan Ban Heong, the 2007 winners from Malaysia, lost 21-17 21-18 against Maneepong Jangjeet and Nipitphon Puangpuapech of Thailand.
    P Kashyap of India knocked out 7th seed Japanese Kenichi Tago.
    4th seed Indonesian Sony Dwi was forced to retire against Jorgensen in Men’s Singles.
