The speculation was about Gayle’s role in the match and his contest with Ashwin. But Morris had Gayle (4 runs) caught behind to Dhoni in the 2nd over of the match and with that a silent prevailed in the camp. Agarwal (21 balls-24 runs with 2 boundaries and a sxi) in the company of Kohli took the score to 52 at a slow pace in the 9th over, and Ashwin had him stumped by Dhoni. With that AB de Villiers joined Kohli.

Both batted till 17th over and took the score to 133, but Morris in his second spell produced a double-blow over as he first had Kohli (58 runs, 47 balls) caught behind by Dhoni and then the replacement of Henriques, Dan Christian was caught by Raina in the same over of MOrris. Christian could score only 2 runs in 2 balls. Next over say Rampaul caught by Dhoni and then AB picked the momentum and went to pavillion only on the last ball of the inning. He scored 64 runs at a strike rate of 200 that included butchering the top wicket taker Morris when he scored 20 runs in 19th over. The last over of the innings by Nannes resulted into 5 runs and RCB challenged MI to chase 166.

For CSK with 40/3 Chris Morris was the most successful. Nannes (31/1), Ashwin (28/1) and Bravo (32/1) were among the wickets.

With both teams being equally ready to take the challenge CSKs batting started on a sour note when both the openers were back to pavillion by 4th over with score reading 10/2. Vijay could score only 2 runs while Michael Hussey scored 6 runs.

Badrinath and Raina rebuilt the innings and took their team to 65/2. by 10.3 overs when Raina (30 runs) was caught by Kartik of Syed Mohammad. Badrinath (34 runs) lasted till 13th over. Dhoni and Jadeja joined hands in 13th over when the score was 78/4. From there on by the time Dhoni (33 runs) departed in 18.1 overs the score read 17/4. In the same over Rampaul sent Dwayn Bravo (8) back to dug out. With increasing run rate and decreasing required run rate, CSK needed a miracle as 16 runs were required to win in the last over.
