After receiving a thumping at Wankhede, Delhi Daredevils trounced Mumbai Indians at home by 9 wickets. Everyone is left wondering what made this turnaround happen!!! Whether it was the fluent Sehwag, most of the time responsible for DDs good or bad fate, whether it was Mahela’s better captaincy, elevating himself ahead of Warner or whether it was Management’s decision to get Sir Vivian Richards as team mentor!! Probably a combo of three worked and DD finally felt at home as the tournament has come alive with their win, and no more they can be taken as underdogs.

MIs Innings
Electing to bat first, Poting also experimented with his team composition making three changes to suit the batting track. Dwayn Smith came out to open innings with Tendulkar. MIs another opening partnership turned unsuccessful. Smith (8 runs, 12 balls) went early, even their best batsman of the season Dinesh Karthik (2 runs, 6 balls) got himself run out. But Rohit Sharma (43-ball 73 runs with 5 sixes and 5 boundaries) proved again to be the tormentor of DD. His devastating knock and Tendulkar’s half-century (47-ball 54 runs, 3 boundaries, 2 sixes) saw MI adding 96-runs for third wicket, unlike their last match where he and Karthik had century partnership for same wicket to take MI past 200 runs.
With much better and disciplined bowling from DD, the score was limited to 161 despite all the sixes hit by Rohit and Pollard’s (19*, 10 ball, 1 six and 1 boundary) presence in the end of the inning. Rayudu was unbeaten on 2 runs.
For DD Irfan Pathan (24/0), Nadeem (20/0) kept the run flow under control in their quota of 4 overs, starting the overs. But Umesh Yadav (31/2), Merw (35/1), Agarkar (37/1 in 3 overs), Russell (13/0 in 1 ov) were expensive.
DDs Chase of 162 runs
Considering the last 6 defeats of DD, 162 was a tough ask specially against the good attack of MI. But when Sehwag plays in flow nothing is impossible. For DDs good fortune, finally he was back among the runs and scored unbeaten 57-ball 95 runs (13 boundaries, 2 sixes) and added 151 runs for 1st wicket with Mahela (43-ball 59 runs with 8 boundaries and a six). Warner also got the chance to play 5 balls and scored 7 runs to get DD to 9 wickets win with 3 overs remaining.
For MI bowlers, including Malinga it was a forgettable day. All the yorkers of Malinga were going for runs, although he got Mahela on one such delivery, but by then only the formalities were remaining.
DD had scored at a run rate of 10 runs, scoring 60/0, the second biggest of the season by any team for the season just behind 64/0 of Pune Warriors. They scored team century in 10th over and that happened for the first time in the tournament.
As a result MI bowlers have nothing good to show. Malinga was still their best with 26/1. Bumrah (38/0 in 3 ov), Munaf (36/0), Harbhajan (30/0 in 3 ov), Dwayn Smith (24/0 in 2 ov), Pollard (11/0 in 1 over) had forgettable figures.
