Still undecided about the core playing XI, Warriors had third captain in 7 matches as Aaron Finch was preferred to replace Mathews, overlooking Steven Smith. Finch succeeded with bat becoming the first debutant IPL Captain to score a half-century. His 42-ball 64 runs (8 boundaries, 2 sixes) were first supported by Uthappa (33-ball 37 runs with 4 boundaries as they shared third 50+ opening wicket partnership adding 83 runs in 10.3 ov. Yuvraj gave sign of good form adding 24-ball 34 runs (2 boundaries, 3 sixes) adding 41 for 2nd wicket but Finch was sent back by Gony, and on the first ball of 18th over Azhar Mahmood had Yuvraj caught with score reading 142/3. Another 20 runs was general expectation and it appeared like going the way of the first match where MI set a target of 161 runs. But Luke Wright playing his first game of the season played the most devastating cameo of the season. In 10 balls he scored 34 runs with 6 boundaries and a six to take Warriors to 180 runs.
