India Super Series Badminton Open 2015 main round starts today and with that starts the competition between top seed Saina Nehwal and Carolina. For them it is not just the championship win and USD 275,000 at stake. The win can make them World No. 1 in Women’s Singles, a very rare feat elusive for any non-chinese Women’s Player. Tine Baun of Denmark is the only non-chinese Woman to have reached the top spot before.

Before the start of the tournament, Saina Nehwal is ranked 2nd in the world while reigning World Badminton Champion Carolina Marin is ranked No. 4.
Both have played against each other on 4 occasions. Saina Nehwal has won the first three games, while Carolina defeated Saina in the All England Open 2015 final.
The Top seed Saina Nehwal starts her campaign against Riya Mukherjee (India) today at around 4 p.m. IST.
2nd seed Carolina Marin starts her campaign against Neha Pundit (India) at 12.15 p.m.
Saina Nehwal has won the India Open once in 2010 when it was not part of Super Series. India Open started in 2008 and was considered part of Super Series from 2011.
Besides Saina in 2010, only V Diju and Jwala Gutta have emerged champions. They won the mixed doubles event in 2010.
Since 2011 when India Open was awarded Super Series rating, no Indian has reached the finals.
