The son of famous Marathi author, Ramesh Tendulkar, and Rajni, employee in the insurance industry, The child prodigy of Cricket, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar married Anjali, six years elder, whose father Anand Mehta is a seven-time national bridge champion. Nicknamed as Tendlya, Bombay Bomber, Little Master, Master Blaster he became Indian living miracle as besides becoming the Youngest Indian to receive Bharat Ratna his achievements made the awards wait for their turn to be felicitated on him and he became the 1st native Indian to have postage stamp released (2013) in own lifetime, overall 2nd Indian after Mother Teresa.

With Ramakant Achrekar as his first coach, he became the 1st overseas-born player to represent Yorkshire. He was 19 years old then. He is the 1st Sportsperson and 1st person without an aviation background to be awarded Group Captain honorary rank by the Indian Air Force.
July 2014, he captained the MCC side in the Bicentenary Celebration match at Lord’s as his last appearance on Cricket Ground. Now, he is the 1st active sportsperson and cricketer to have been nominated for Rajya Sabha. He is allotted seat Number 103 in Rajya Sabha, after taking oath on June 4, 2012.
