Saina Nehwal continued his forward march as she defeated another Chinese in the quarterfinal to enter semifinal where she will meet the tournament top seed LI Xuerei of China. After yesterday’s multiple losses of Indians, Saina Nehwal is the lone Indian left in the tournament.
Saina needed all her skills to overcome the unseeded Sun Yu and emerge winner for the third consecutive time against her. She has lost to Sun Yu in China Open 2013. Since they she has defeated Sun Yu in Star Australian Badminton 2014 and All England Open 2015.
Today in the quarterfinal of the Malaysian Open, Saina Nehwal won 21-11 18-21 21-17 in 1 hour 11 minutes. She will face top seed Xuerui (China) in the semifinal. Saina has won 2 and lost 7 of the 9 games she has played against Xuerui.
LI Xuerui defeated 5th seed Wang Yihan of China 14-21 21-15 21-12 in 55 minutes. In the other group 2nd seed Chinese Shixian Wang defeated Japanese Nozomi Okuhara 21-19 15-21 22-20 in one of the longest matches of the Badminton event. Both played for 1 hour 51 minutes.
Wang will play semifinal against the winner of 6th seed Carolina Marin and Ngan Yu Cheung (Hong Kon).
