World Women’s Chess Championship 2015: Harika and Humpy Win Silver and Bronze Medals

2012 Semifinalist Dronavalli Harika and 2011 Runners up and earlier top seed Koneru Humpy won the Silver and Bronze medals respectively in the individual event of the Women’s World Chess Championship 2015 at CHENGDU (CHINA). Both lost eventually against the champion Mariya Muzychuk (Ukraine).

Mariya defeated Dronavalli Harika in semifinal 3.5-2.5 and Humpy Kopnery 2.5-1.5 in quarterfinals. Humpy was the top seed for the event, while Harika was 12th seed.

Despite their top two finishes the team failed to reach the podium as Indian women finished fourth behind the hosts China. Georgia won their first ever team championship while Russia claimed the silver medal.
