Ind vs WI 1st Test Day 2: Captain’s Record, 44th Double Century, 199th century partnership and Ashwin Extend Domination

Resuming from 304/4 of Day 1, Indian batsmen continued their domination as Kohli became the first Indian captain to score a double century abroad and Ashwin reached his third test century. West Indies lost first wicket as they started after India declared scoring their second highest score at West Indies, and the highest test score of 566/8 at North Sound by any team. Summary
India continued their cautious approach as Kohli and Ashwin added 169 runs for 5th wicket to take India to a strong total. West Indies bowlers did not allow them to score freely but failed to take wicket before lunch. Again after lunch in the first over the wicket fail. Yesterday, it was Pujara by Bishoo. Today it was Kohli by Gabriel. By then Kohli has broken many records scoring his highest first class score.

Saha with cautious 40, Amit Mishra with quick 53 added another 50+ partnerships with Ashwin, while Shami made a quickfire 9-ball unbeaten 17 runs with 2 sixes.

Ashwin on the other hand played patiently to score his firs Away test century scoring 113 runs with 12 boundaries. Saha was caught behind by Dowrich, Ashwin was caught by Gabriel and Amit Mishra was caught by Holder as KC Brathwaite took the last 3 wickets.

As India declared on 566/8 just an hour after tea, West Indies spinners had a tale to tell. Bishoo with 3/163 in 43 overs bowled just one maiden over becoming the most expensive West Indies bowler in a test at Home against India. Chase with 0/102, captain Holder with 0/83 and CR Brathwaite with 0/80 remained wicketless. Gabriel returned the figure of 2/65 surprisingly bowling the least over among main bowlers depsite being the most effective.

West Indies played with extra cautious as Umesh and Ishant failed to break through. But, playing after a long gap, Shami gave India the first breakthrough when he had Chandrika caught behind by Saha. Chandrika scored 16 runs from the 30 runs scored till then by West Indies openers in 14 overs. Night Watchman Bishoo on 0 and KC Brathwaite on 11 finished the day for West Indies at 31/1.

Amit Mishra did not bowl as Indians tested West Indies for 16 overs. Shami had 1/6 in 3 overs, Ashwin had 0/7 in 3 overs. Opening bowlers Ishant with 0/12 in 6 overs and Umesh with 0/5 in 4 overs were the other two to bowl.
