Chess Olympiad 2016: Indian Men Return to top 2, Women at 7th with Similar Wins in 8th Round

After disastrous 7th round where both lost their first matches at the Baku Chess Olympiad, normalcy returned for Indians in 8th round as Indian Men and Women registered similar 2.5-1.5 wins. Men defeated England to jump to 2nd place, while Women defeated Uzbekistan to reach 7th position. In Men’s Top placed USA and Greece, and in Women’s top placed China still remain the only undefeated team after 8th round.

9th Round on Sunday will see 2nd placed Indian Men play 3rd placed Ukraine, while 7th placed Indian women will play 12th placed Netherlands. With 3 more rounds to go, Indian Men have earned 14 points with a score of 22, while Indian women have 12 points with a score of 21.
