
4th edition of Asian Women’s Champions Trophy is set to have a new champion as 2013 Runners up India play the final against 2011 Runners up China. Defending Champions Japan will play for 3rd place against first two editions Champion South Korea. Indian women lost their last group match to China 3-2, despite equalizing after trailing 0-2. The better goal difference as compared to Japan helped them seal second entry in final against China, who will also play their second final. Indians were tied on 7 points with Japan, with whom they played a draw, but as all teams finished group matches, India had a goal difference of +2, one more than Japan which finished third at pool. Tomorrow will see a repeat of today’s group matches. In the final China will meet India, while Japan will meet South Korea, who lost today to Japan 3-2.
Malaysia had defeated Japan as their only win after 3 consecutive losses, but that did not help them reach top four as despite being tied on 3 points, they had a goal difference of -5 as compared to -1 of South Korea.
At the end of Pool Stage, China with 3 wins and a loss against Japan finished on top with 9 points.
India with 2 wins, a draw vs Japan and loss vs China finished second with 7 points.
Japan also had 7 points with their shocking loss against Malaysia, and finished third.
South Korea won against Malaysia, but lost remaining to finish 4th on 3 points, ahead of Malaysia on goal difference.
India, China and South Korea have scored maximum 8 goals in 4 matches, while Malaysia (10) and South Korea (9) conceded maximum goals.
