
In her third appearance at China Open, PV Sindhu entered her first semifinal. This is the third consecutive year when an Indian reached China Open semifinal. Saina Nehwal played the finals in the last two China Open. 7th seed PV Sindhu Enters China Open Semifinal. Playing third time in third consecutive tournament against Bingjiao He from China, and overall 6th time in 2016, Sindhu won her third match against the chinese opponent. She has lost overall on 4 occasions to her. In her third appearance , she has come closer to become the third Indian to win China Open after the double win achieved by Srikanth and Saina Nehwal in 2014. Saina lost the final in 2015.
Winning 22-20 21-10, Sindhu has set the semifinal clash against 6th seed Ji Hyun Sung of Korea. The other semifinal will be played between 8th seed Yu Sun (China) and 5th seed Tzu Ying Tai (Taipei), who knocked out top seed Carolina Marin in straight sets.
Ajay Jayaram fought hard but lost to 2nd seed Long Chen (China) 15-21 14-21 in 40 minutes.
Sindhu has won 5 of the 8 matches played against her semifinal opponent from Korea including the last match at Malaysia Open. This is their 4th meeting in 2016 and Sindhu have won 2 of them, losing once in Asia Team Championships.
