Welsh International 2016: One Runners up, Two Semifinals and two Quarterfinals for India

Welsh International 2016, Ashwini Ponnappa, Sikki Reddy

Sikki Reddy celebrated her highest ranking (18th with Pranaav) in Mixed Doubles by reaching the semifinals, and finishing Runners up with Ashwini Ponnappa at the Welsh International 2016. Indian Men’s Doubles team of Jishnu Sanyal and Shivam Sharma also reached semifinals, while 2nd seed Tanvi Lad and 4th seed Sourabh Varma struggled. Despite some good rankings, while Indians returned empty handed, exceptional performances of Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy is a big boost for Indian Badminton.

Women’s Doubles

    Unseeded Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy finished Runners up, losing to the top seeds from Russia Anastasia/Olga 21-16 21-11

Mixed Doubles

    2nd seeds Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Sikki Reddy lost the semifinals to unseeded Malaysian pair.
    Unseeded Ashwini Ponnappa and K Nandagopal reached the quarterfinals where they lost to Indonesian pair

Men’s Doubles

    6th seed Jishnu Sanyal and Shivam Sharma lost the semifinals to 3rd seed pair from Chinese Taipei, who played the final against another team from their country.

Women’s Singles

    2nd seed Tanvi lad was knocked out in Quarterfinals by unseeded Shuo from Chinese Taipei.
    Unseeded Saili Rane reached 2nd round losing to 7th seed German.
    Unseeded Arundhati Pantawane lost in 1st round to 3rd seed from Hong Kong.

Men’s Singles

    4th seed Sourabh Varma and unseeded Lakhanee Sarang lost in 2nd round.
