After 2 years of his retirement from test matches in December 2014, World’s biggest Captain in terms of numbers as captain, MS Dhoni has decided to give up captaincy in shorter international formats too. Although to the relief of his fans, the most successful Indian captain and the last-ball sixer man will continue to play international matches as a batsman/wicketkeeper. With 331 matches as captain in all international formats, Dhoni is ahead of Ponting and Fleming, only other two players to captain in 300+ international matches. More than those numbers, Dhoni surpassed all captains and teams of world to become the ONLY captain to have led his team to victory in all three ICC Championships.

Even in the T20I format, Dhoni survived while the players across the globe had to bow off.
With World record 72 T20I as captain, he has won 41, which is more than Sammy’s 21 T20I as captain, which is second biggest in T20I for captains.
Captaining India in ODIs since 2007, with 199 ODIs as captain Dhoni is the third highest after 230 by Ponting and 218 by Stephen Fleming.
