MS Dhoni: World’s Biggest Captain and the Only One to Win All Three Trophies

After 2 years of his retirement from test matches in December 2014, World’s biggest Captain in terms of numbers as captain, MS Dhoni has decided to give up captaincy in shorter international formats too. Although to the relief of his fans, the most successful Indian captain and the last-ball sixer man will continue to play international matches as a batsman/wicketkeeper. With 331 matches as captain in all international formats, Dhoni is ahead of Ponting and Fleming, only other two players to captain in 300+ international matches. More than those numbers, Dhoni surpassed all captains and teams of world to become the ONLY captain to have led his team to victory in all three ICC Championships.

    Test (2008-14): 60 (27 wins, 15 draws, 18 losses)
    ODIs (2007-16): 199 (110 won, 74 lost)
    T20Is (2008-16): 72 (Won 41, lost 28)

Individual Performance as Captain

    ODI: 6633 runs (Avg. 54, SR: 86)
    T20Is: 1112 runs (SR: 122.60)
    Test: 3454 runs (Avg. 40.63)

The only man to win all 3 of the ICC Cricket World Cup (2011), ICC World Twenty20 (2007), and ICC Champions Trophy (2013) as captain!

In 2008 when the Fab four and Kumble retired, nobody knew the fate of Indian Cricket team. With Dhoni at helm since 2008, by the time he signed off in test matches in 2014 and shorter formats in 2016, Indians reached the Top ranking in Test Matches as well as ODIs.

Even in the T20I format, Dhoni survived while the players across the globe had to bow off.
With World record 72 T20I as captain, he has won 41, which is more than Sammy’s 21 T20I as captain, which is second biggest in T20I for captains.

Captaining India in ODIs since 2007, with 199 ODIs as captain Dhoni is the third highest after 230 by Ponting and 218 by Stephen Fleming.
