
When India Open Super Series Champion PV Sindhu and Badminton Superstar Saina Nehwal were knocked out, all other Indians but one faltered in the first round of 2017 Malaysian Open Super Series. But, Ajay Jayaram was not content to be the only Indian to reach 2nd round. Two time Dutch Open champion (2014 and 2015) Ajay Jayaram ensured that Indian hopes remain alive till Quarterfinals as the unseeded knocked out World No. 2 and last week’s India Open Super Series champion Viktor Axelsen. Only the second Indian after Srikanth (2014) to reach Men’s Singles Quarterfinals, World No. 20 Ajay Jayaram lost his 4th career match to World No. 5 Wan Ho Sun from Korea in the QF ending Indian challenge. Saina Nehwal has reached 4 semifinals (2016, 2015, 2013, 2012) while Sindhu reached QF in 2016.

Ajay Jayaram def Viktor Axelsen 9-21 21-14 21-19 in 44 minutes.
Before this match, both were tied at 2-2 in career meet with Axelsen defeating Jayaram last week at India Open.
QF vs Wan Ho Son
Jayaram has not won in their last three career meets. They met last in China Open 2013.
Jayaram lost 21-18 21-14 in 37 minutes.
