Singapore Open SS 2017: Srikanth and Sai Praneeth Enter Men’s Singles Semifinals

Two Indians entered the semifinals of the Singapore Open Super Series as Srikanth Kidambi and Sai Praneeth won their quarterfinal matches. Among the four Indians in quarterfinals, other two lost. Sindhu lost to Carolina Marina trailing her 4-6 in career meet now, and Ashwini/Sumeeth lost to 3rd seeds. Srikanth won comfortably while Sai Praneeth played the longest match of quarterfinals to enter his first Super Series semifinals. Both semifinalists are chasing the record of Saina Nehwal, who is the only Indian to have ever won a title at Singapore Open.

Srikanth has a 1-1 career record against his opponent. He won against him in Indonesian Masters 2015, and lost before that in the same year at Indonesia Open 2015. Sai Praneeth lost the only match played against the Korea at Japan Open 2015.

    Ashwini Ponnappa / Sumeeth Reddy lost to 3rd seed Chinese pair 21-11 21-8 in 27 minutes
    5th seed Sindhu lost to 4th seed Carolina 21-11 21-15 in 35 minutes
