
While the champions failed, wildcard entry Gaurav Bidhuri surprised all by entering the semifinals in 56 kg event. Out of 3 in quarters, only one Indian could reach semifinals. Gaurav with a Bronze medal assured will play the semifinal on Aug 31. The big question! Will India get its first-ever finalist in Men’s World Boxing Championship? Gaurav is confident. Gaurav became the second Indian debutant after Vikas Krishnan to win a medal. Vijender, Shiva and Vikas are previous three medal winners of India.

Gauarav def Bilel Mhamdi from Tunisia 3-0. He will now take on Duke Ragan of USA on August 31 in the semifinal of Hamburg World Boxing Championship.
India’s other two hopefuls could not clear the final hurdle for a medal. Amit lost 0-5 to Hasanboy Dusmatov of Uzbekistan.
Kavinder Bisht lost 0-5 to Kim In-kyu of Korea in Flyweight.
