World Men’s Boxing Championship: Out of 8, 3 Indians in Medal Contention

Kavinder Bisht shocked two-time world medallist to join 2 other Indian Quarterfinalists on Aug 29. Out of 10 events, Indians participated in 8 events in Men’s 2017 Championship hosted by Hamburg, Germany from 25 August to September 2. A win will assure at least a Bronze medal. Indian Men’s team have won 3 Bronze medals at World Boxing Championships in 18 editions, starting from 1974 till the start of 2017 championships. Indian Women’s team have punched better as they are ranked third behind Russia and China winning 28 medals that included 8 Gold medals.

India is tied at 49th position with multiple other nations in medal list. Indian women have won 28 medals with 8 Gold, 6 Silver and 14 Bronze medals in tournaments from 2001 to 2016.
